10-Day Uganda Primate Safari

This 10-day Primate Safari takes you through Uganda’s premier primate habitats — Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi, and Mgahinga — for encounters with chimpanzees, gorillas, and golden monkeys, complemented by scenic drives, cultural experiences, and breathtaking landscapes.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport, transfer to hotel near Lake Victoria. Optional visit to Botanical Gardens or Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Relax and overnight in Entebbe.

Day 2: Drive to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, drive through tea plantations and crater lakes to Kibale. Evening nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for red colobus, blue monkeys, and baboons.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale

Morning chimpanzee trek with Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Observe chimps and other primates in their natural habitat. Afternoon community walk or crater lake visit.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Drive to Queen Elizabeth NP via Kasese. Afternoon game drive on Kasenyi plains and boat cruise on Kazinga Channel to view hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and birds.

Day 5: Kyambura Gorge Chimp Trek

Descend into Kyambura Gorge (“Valley of the Apes”) for chimp tracking in the forested gorge. Afternoon optional game drive across the plains of Queen Elizabeth NP.

Day 6: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Scenic drive through Ishasha sector, famous for tree-climbing lions, towards Bwindi. Enjoy birdwatching and rolling hills en route. Arrive and rest for next day’s gorilla trek.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Morning briefing by rangers followed by guided trek through Bwindi Forest to encounter a habituated gorilla family. Afternoon optional Batwa cultural visit or relaxation.

Day 8: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Drive through the Virunga highlands to Mgahinga Gorilla NP. Afternoon leisure with optional coffee tour, cultural walk, or birding around Lake Mutanda.

Day 9: Golden Monkey Tracking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Morning briefing at Ntebeko Centre followed by golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga’s bamboo forests. Afterward, drive to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation and overnight.

Day 10: Return to Entebbe and Departure

Depart Lake Bunyonyi, stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for photos and lunch, then continue to Entebbe for overnight or airport transfer. End of safari.
