10-Day Uganda Birding Safari

Experience Uganda’s top birding destinations — from Mabamba Swamp to Bwindi, Lake Bunyonyi, and Lake Mburo. This 10-day safari offers encounters with iconic species including the Shoebill, Great Blue Turaco, African Green Broadbill, and many Albertine Rift endemics.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Mabamba Swamp (Shoebill Experience)

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to Mabamba Wetland for a canoe birding excursion in search of the Shoebill and other water species. Return to Entebbe for overnight.

Day 2: Entebbe – Kibale Forest National Park

Drive westwards to Kibale Forest National Park, birding en route through Fort Portal. Evening birding around the lodge.

Day 3: Kibale Forest & Bigodi Wetland Birding

Morning birding in Kibale Forest for Green-breasted Pitta and African Grey Parrot, then afternoon visit to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for Great Blue Turaco and Black Bee-eater.

Day 4: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth National Park (Mweya)

Drive through Rwenzori foothills to Queen Elizabeth NP. Afternoon boat cruise on Kazinga Channel to see African Skimmer and Fish Eagle.

Day 5: Birding Queen Elizabeth NP (Kasenyi Plains & Maramagambo Forest)

Morning birding in Kasenyi Plains for Red-necked Francolin and White-winged Warbler. Afternoon in Maramagambo Forest for Blue-breasted Kingfisher.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Ruhija Sector)

Drive via Ishasha, birding en route for African Harrier Hawk and Black Bee-eater. Arrive Ruhija for evening forest-edge birding.

Day 7: Birding Bwindi (Ruhija Sector)

Full-day birding in Bwindi’s Ruhija area via Mubwindi Swamp Trail, searching for Albertine Rift endemics like African Green Broadbill and Regal Sunbird.

Day 8: Ruhija – Lake Bunyonyi Birding

Depart for Lake Bunyonyi through highland scenery. Afternoon boat ride to spot Bronzy Sunbird, Dusky Crimsonwing, and Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater.

Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park

Drive to Lake Mburo NP, evening birding for Red-faced Barbet, African Finfoot, and Rufous-bellied Heron.

Day 10: Lake Mburo – Entebbe (Departure)

Morning birding walk or canoe ride at Lake Mburo for Tabora Cisticola and Brown-chested Lapwing. Return to Entebbe, stop at the Equator. End of Safari.
